How safe is the 2020 Ram 1500 pickup truck?
When you look at the Ram 1500, you can already tell that this is a bold beast of a truck that can help you out with some heavy lifting and your everyday tasks. It checks so many boxes that pickup truck fans look for, and now you can add safety honors to the list. How safe is the 2020 Ram 1500 pickup truck? So safe that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2020 Crew Cab and certain 2019 Crew Cab models the honor of Top Safety Pick+, the highest honor from the organization.
The Ram 1500 is the first full-size pickup truck to get an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating
This is the first pickup truck given the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ under the organization’s current guidelines for this honor. This rating specifically is for the 2020 Ram 1500 as well as some 2019 models that were produced after May of 2019. What helps give these trucks a boost is the available LED projector headlamps which have high-beam assist and the Ram Automatic Emergency Braking technology with Forward Collision Mitigation.
How does the IIHS make their picks?
To get an understanding of the crashworthiness of any vehicle, the IIHS runs it through six crash tests to evaluate how it performs. These tests include three frontal crashes, a side impact, a rear impact, and a rollover. The 2020 Ram 1500 achieved the highest possible ratings in all six tests, and the Forward Collision Mitigation and Automatic Emergency Braking were graded as superior, almost certainly helped by the Integrated Radar Camera Module equipped on the truck. That’s what gives it the plus sign in Top Safety Pick+, going that little bit extra to ensure the safety of passengers.
