What is the 2019 Ford Edge IIHS rating?
Family-friendly crossovers and SUVs are a major part of our roads today, and it’s completely understandable. They offer plenty of space for passengers and cargo, not to mention loads of different features anyone can love. The Ford Edge is a great example, but is it safe? One organization sets out to find those answers for us: The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, or IIHS. What is the 2019 Ford Edge IIHS rating? If you’ve been eyeing this vehicle up, you’ll be pleased to know that it earned the Top Safety Pick rating. Read ahead for more details on what this means for the Edge.
How did the 2019 Ford Edge earn the Top Safety Pick rating?
Vehicles are tested in six different crash tests to determine their crashworthiness—small overlap front: driver-side; small overlap front: passenger-side; moderate overlap front; side; roof strength; and head restraints and seats. Vehicles are rated on a scale of Poor, Marginal, Acceptable, and Good. The 2019 Ford Edge nailed all of these tests with a Good rating. The 2019 Ford Edge also earned recognition for its crash avoidance and mitigation, where the front crash prevention standard system and optional system both received Superior ratings, on a scale of Basic, Advanced, and Superior. The available LED projector headlights with available curve-adaptive technology pushed the vehicle over the edge, no pun intended, to give it the Top Safety Pick rating.
The 2019 Ford Edge is standard with Ford Co-Pilot360™, which offers a suite of smart safety features that includes Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking. The IIHS rated this system highly based on its “ability to react to an imminent crash with another vehicle.” The system can help drivers avoid a crash based on tests of speeds at 12 mph and 25 mph.
